7-12 Tutoring FAQ’s
Since 2004, Tier One Tutors has been helping students of all ages improve their grades and their confidence. Whether it is a 9th grader who has fallen behind with reading, a 7th grader who just needs assistance with their homework, or an 11th grader struggling in AP Calculus, we have expert tutors who will guide your child. Here are some of the common questions that we get asked and our answers to them. If you have any additional questions, feel free to give us a call toll-free at 1-800-998-4371.
Q: Before I spend any money, I want to meet my child’s tutor!
A: You should! At Tier One, we recognize that you want to know who will be working with your child. Not only can you speak with your child’s tutor over the phone, we’ll even set our selected tutor up to work with your child for a full hour with no obligation! If it’s the right fit, we’ll set you up with a package to move forward. If it’s not a match, the session’s on us!
Q: What if I don’t like the tutor you assign to my child?
A: Although our tutor matching system is one of the best in the business, mistakes can happen. If you aren’t completely happy with your tutor then not only will we change the tutor instantly, we will even let you try another tutor totally free.
Q: We are strapped for time and don’t want to trek to your center.
A: We only provide one-on-one virtual tutoring. We will happily work to find a day and time that works for your child’s schedule.
Q: I have heard that private tutoring is pricier than finding a tutor from a local college. Is that true?
A: You’re correct. Tier One’s personalized, one-on-one tutoring is indeed more expensive than finding a college student or visiting a local tutoring center. However, we’re pretty confident that when it comes to your child’s grades and his or her success in school, you don’t want to take a risk just to save a few bucks. What do you really know about the background and experience of a “discount tutor” from a local college or small company? We put our tutors through a vigorous interview cycle that rejects 97% of applicants, we train accepted candidates extensively, and we have invested tens of thousands of dollars into the research and development of our methodology and materials.
Q: Anyone can say they know how to teach, so how do I know your tutors really can?
A: Great question. This is a common problem in the tutoring industry, and to be honest, it’s an issue we experienced at the beginning of our business. You want a tutor to produce consistent results with your child, but poorly trained tutors deliver erratic results. To counteract this problem, we have invested significantly in research and development to create advanced testing systems for our tutors. We have had expertly-crafted tests custom-made for us in all subjects from middle school to high school AP classes. Before being assigned to a student, any potential tutor must “ace” these difficult tests to prove they really are 100% knowledgeable in the subject they will be teaching your child. Q: How do I know this stranger is safe to work with my child?
A: As a parent, you should be concerned about the tutor who works with your child. We work with a nationally recognized background check company to have EVERY SINGLE ONE of our tutors checked out ahead of time. From social security number checks to state and federal background checks, we’ve got you covered.
