History of La Crescenta This community is still remembered for the wildfires that raged in 1933 that were followed by a massive flooding later in the year. In December of 1933 a winter storm was produced and it left this community with more than 12 inches of rain, which led to flooding. This flooding resulted in hillsides collapsing and sending humongous amounts of mud and debris onto Crescenta Valley homes. The destruction from the flooding and mudslides was substantial, but in time La Crescenta and neighboring areas recovered fully. However, the floods of 1933 are still remembered due to the more than 400 homes that were destroyed as a result of the 1933 floods. This is a part of the history of the community that still lives on. |
