The city of Irvine is located in Orange County, California and was incorporated on December 28, 1971. An architect by the name of William Pereira and an employee of the Irvine Company Raymond Watson designed the layout to this suburban city. As one of the nation's largest planned urban communities, it spans out over 65 square miles.
Irvine is divided into townships, which are also called villages. In each individual township there are houses that all share a similar design. Each township also has their own religious institutions, schools, and commercial centers. The mayor of this city as of 2013 is Steven Choi and he assumed office on December 11, 2012.
There are many attractions that the locals and tourists can enjoy. The Irvine Spectrum Center is one of the popular destination. Here, visitors can enjoy restaurants, shopping destinations, theater and entertainment, and much more. Other popular destinations include museums, the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary, Pretend City, Edwards Westpark 8 Cinema, and Strawberry Farms Golf Club.
The city has great jobs, a good schooling system, and desired housing. Because of these factors, the city was chosen by CNNMoney.com in 2008 as the fourth best place to live in the United States. BusinessWeek named Irvine as the fifth best city in the United States to live in 2011.
The city was also ranked as having the lowest crime rate among cities that have more than 100,000 residents. Some of the top international companies stationed in this city include Toshiba Corporation, Samsung Electronics, Kia Motors, and Mazda Motor Corporation.
