Pacific Palisades When you are searching for wealthy and stunningly beautiful cities, Los Angeles is definitely the place to start. The Pacific Palisades are of the most prominent and affluent neighborhoods in all of Los Angeles, California. This neighborhood is located on the west part of Los Angeles and is flanked by Brentwood on the east and by Malibu on the West. The Santa Monica Mountains are located on the north side of this neighborhood, which allows for a great location. There are more than 26,000 residents living in this area and it has a variety of homes. Condos, apartments, older homes and mansions make up the entire Pacific Palisades neighborhood. The History and Background This region was first used as land for film Director Thomas Ince’s many western films from the beginning of 1911 and for a few years after. However, in 1922 the land was purchased by a reverend named Charles H. Scott. Scott founded the Pacific Palisades with visions of community that was established on Methodist principles. Many religious individuals quickly began to relocate to this neighborhood and by 1925 there were more than 100 homes in this region. Many of the street were originally named after prominent Methodists at this time period. At first tents lines the Pacific Palisades, but over the years these transformed to cabins and now this area is home to many million dollar residences. Nazi Germany and the Palisades This region became a sort of refuge for many Germans and Australians that were exiled from Nazi Germany during the 1930’s and 1940’s. Many of those exiled were known as artists and intellectuals and some of the more well-known individuals included Vicki Baum, Emil Ludwig and Thomas Mann. This region also had a ban on alcohol for many years and there was only one restaurant in the entire region that even had a liquor license. Popular Activities The Pacific Palisades is known for beauty, affluence and wealth, but it is also a place of celebration during the 4th of July each year. The neighborhood always has many activities that are designed to celebrate and many of the most popular events include marathons, and a parade that takes place on Sunset Boulevard. It is even possible to view the spectacular fireworks display that is set off at the Palisades football field. This is one of the most celebrated events of the year in this prominent Los Angeles neighborhood. |
