Laguna Beach, CA Laguna Beach is a city located along the coast of Orange County, California, south of Newport Beach. The city has just over 22,000 residents and is known for its scenic beaches and landscape. Laguna Beach was first founded in 1887 and in 1927 it officially became the City of Laguna Beach. The city experienced a large growth in population since it's incorporation, growing from 1900 residents in 1927 to over 10,000 in 1962. In addition to a growth in population, the city itself became larger, growing to four times its original size. Laguna Beach aims to protect its scenic beachfronts; close to six miles of its coastline are protected by a State Marine Reserve. With over 3 million tourists coming to the city each year, such protection only makes sense. The city is known in popular culture by many due to MTV's television show Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, which is a reality show based on the lives of several teenagers living in the city. In 1993, a large fire took place in the city and did damage to or destroyed over 400 homes and 14,000 acres.
